Enchanter’s nightshade is not in the same family as deadly nightshade but is in the same family as evening primrose and rosebay willowherb. It is a patch forming perennial with dull green oval leaves which are 4-10 cm long, tapering at the tip. The flowers form on a downy spike above the leaves and are small, about half a centimetre, white to pinkish in colour. They have two petals which are each divided or notched so they look like they have more petals than they actually have. There are also two stamens and two stigma-lobes.
