Storm surge in the city

Friday 29 August, 2014

The dramatic storm surge of 5 December 2013 and the effects it had on coastal nature reserves and wildlife have been captured in Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s new screenshow: Wildlife on the Edge, playing at the Forum in Norwich.

It is a collaboration between Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) and the Forum Trust, and uses stunning landscape and wildlife images, interviews with wardens and TV news footage to highlight the events last year and how NWT and National Trust prepared, responded and recovered.

The 25-minute film will run continuously in the Fusion gallery, from Monday 1 September, to Saturday 6 September 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free.

Head of People and Wildlife for Norfolk Wildlife Trust, David North who has helped create the screenshow said: “The power of nature to change a landscape in a night is truly awe-inspiring but it is also wonderful to see how wildlife has recovered since last year’s storm surge.  Come along and enjoy stunning images showing the dynamic and ever-changing landscape and wildlife of the North Norfolk coast.”

Both NWT and NT continue to work hard to protect and enhance these special sites for wildlife. NWT purchased an additional 143 acres of land next to Cley Marshes shortly before the storm surge, with support from Heritage Lottery Fund and a fundraising appeal and are now working hard to restore and improve this land for wildlife. Building work is now also underway at the site of the current Cley Marshes visitor centre to build the Simon Aspinall Wildlife Education Centre which will open in Spring 2015.
