Norfolk's magical meadows

Tuesday 27 June, 2017

Norfolk Wildlife Trust is leading a free meadow tour of Mulbarton Common this Saturday 1 July 2017 as part of The Wildlife Trusts’ national ‘Our Meadow Wildlife Weekend.

Join Helen Baczkowska, Norfolk Wildlife Trust Conservation Officer this Saturday 1 July from 10am to 12pm, on a tour of Mulbarton Common, a County Wildlife Site. The walk is free and Helen will show some of the typical Norfolk meadow plants that make this beautiful common so special such as lady’s bedstraw and bird’s-foot trefoil, what makes a meadow a meadow, why they are so important and how they are managed.

Lowland meadows are one of the most threatened habitats in Britain, with more than 95% lost between 1945 and 1984. Many of those that remain are vulnerable to changes in management, but are also one of the most diverse habitats, teeming with life from tiny insects to reptiles and hunting birds of prey.

The Wildlife Trusts are passionate about restoring wildflower-rich meadows and run the annual Our Meadow Wildlife Weekend which sees Trusts all over the UK celebrating and exploring meadows.

Please meet in the car park by Mulbarton Sports and Social Club car park, New Village Hall, the Common, Mulbarton, Norfolk NR14 8AE.  The walk is free and there is no need to book.
