Through regular activities and get-togethers, we will support Youth Forum members to attend and organise wildlife events, have a say in our work, lead community nature projects and campaigns – and even manage their own nature reserve in Norwich.
The new initiative, part of a £240,000 programme made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is open to all. No prior experience with nature conservation is needed - just a passion for making a difference. We will provide lots of opportunities for their new Youth Forum members to work with and learn from its staff and volunteers.
The Youth Forum will meet every month at the charity's headquarters in Norwich, as well as having the opportunity to organise and take part in other activities in wild spaces across Norfolk.
Alex Day, our Senior Youth Engagement Officer, said: ‘The future of our natural world depends on the next generation of wildlife guardians, and it’s vital we support young people to get involved in nature conservation in Norfolk.
‘Thanks to support from National Lottery players and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, our new Youth Forum will offer a supportive and accessible space for young people to have a voice in the future of Norfolk’s nature, enjoy the amazing benefits of being outside in nature together, develop new skills and make new friends.
‘We want our Youth Forum to be as diverse as nature itself and welcome applications from everyone - whether you know your bitterns from your badgers or are new to nature, we can’t wait to hear from you!’
Robyn Llewellyn, Director, England, Midlands and East at The National Lottery Heritage Fund said: ‘We are so pleased to be supporting Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s new youth forum. Thanks to National Lottery players, our funding will encourage a new generation to become custodians of the natural heritage around us.’
We believe that nature belongs to everyone and we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all young people, regardless of background, feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to the future of Norfolk's wildlife.
Applications are welcomed from anyone aged 16-25. If you're interested in getting involved, you just need to fill in and submit a short online application by Friday 17 January.
