About the group

The North Norfolk Local Group is run by a small but active committee. We are a mixture of people, with knowledge gained from careers in the natural world and enthusiasts who like nothing more than a brisk walk along the coast. The committee meets only three or four times each year. If you would like the stimulus of helping to keep the programme going and shaping its future direction, please contact the Chairman, Andy Clarke.

Our local area

North Norfolk enjoys a wealth of wildlife habitats: a subtly varied coastline, heathlands, woods, and diverse wetlands. The region is renowned for its resident and migrant birds. The plant life is distinctive too, thanks to a varied terrain that has developed during the area's long and fascinating geological history. There are lots of interesting invertebrates thriving here too. Many people have chosen to live in North Norfolk to further their interests in wildlife and, as a result, there is a high level of local expertise which is freely shared around. The North Norfolk Local Group seeks to foster this with a programme of talks, excursions and events - and visitors are always welcome!

In the summer we organise a varied programme of outdoor events, held at interesting local venues and led by a knowledgeable guide.

The winter sees us move indoors with a series of illustrated talks, typically three before Christmas and three afterwards. These are held on the third Thursday of the month at Cley Village Hall, at 7.30pm. The hall has ample parking, and talks include light refreshments. These talks are typically held jointly with Cley Bird Club, and occasionally with the North East Norfolk Bird Club.
