Kestrel box
We've installed a donated kestrel nest box at Sweet Briar Marshes, complete with a camera inside. Stay tuned for potential nesters - hopefully, we'll see some fluffy chicks come springtime! The box could also attract other species such as stock doves or jackdaws.
Visitors to Sweet Briar often spot kestrels hovering over the short-grazed grass, hunting for voles and mice. With a bit of luck, this could be an exciting opportunity to witness them creating future generations that can continue to hunt at Sweet Briar for years to come. Fingers crossed 🤞
We also have sound from this camera and when it's less windy, it's capturing the soundscape of an inner-city nature reserve. Mixed birdsong with the occasional siren or the roar from a motorbike!
As the kestrel box camera setup is in a remote location and powered entirely by solar energy, we are 100% dependent on the British weather!
It does have a battery backup and night vision so we will be streaming 24/7, however it will go offline after a few cloudy days.
If you see the camera is offline, please be patient and check back after a couple of sunny days and it should be back online.
