Giving back to Norfolk's nature

Rob Bates

In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, falling this year on Tuesday 3 December, we are sharing some ways you can take meaningful action to help Norfolk’s wildlife.

From volunteering and membership to simple activities at home, there are many ways you can give back to nature and make a lasting impact on our wonderful local wildlife.

Help wildlife at home
You can make a difference to local wildlife in your own garden or outdoor space. Simple actions like planting native wildflowers, creating a nature pond, or installing bird and bat boxes can provide safe havens for wildlife. Reducing pesticide use and leaving areas of your garden wild can also help support beloved species like hedgehogs, bumblebees, and butterflies.

Volunteer
Volunteering with Norfolk Wildlife Trust is a fantastic way to give back to nature. Whether you’re helping with habitat management on one of our nature reserves, leading a wild walk, or helping us run fun family activities, your time and skills are always appreciated. Volunteering allows you to directly contribute to our cause and gives you a deeper connection to the wonderful wildlife and places you are helping to preserve.

Become a member
By becoming a member of Norfolk Wildlife Trust, you support our vital work by providing essential regular funding. Your membership helps us protect over 60 nature reserves across the county, safeguard endangered species, and tackle local environmental challenges. As a member, you’ll receive updates on our projects, reduced-price tickets to our exciting events, and (most importantly) the satisfaction of knowing you are part of a community of over 39,000 other members supporting vital conservation work in Norfolk. If you are already a member, you could consider gifting a wild and wonderful year to someone else by sending them a gift membership.

Donate
Donating is a great way to give back to local wildlife. Any contribution, big or small, helps us to protect and restore wildlife and wild places in Norfolk: without your generosity, we would not be able to do this vital work. Winter can be a difficult time of year for our wildlife, so any donations you gift us are gratefully received – you could think of your donation as a Christmas present for Norfolk’s nature!

Share
It may seem like a small action, but sharing our social posts, appeals, website pages, and more, all help to spread the word about the work of Norfolk Wildlife Trust and how important protecting our wildlife is. By sharing our posts, you spread the word about the actions we can all take to make Norfolk a better place for nature, and how best to enjoy our wonderful wild places. You might even recruit our newest member, or inspire someone to visit a new nature reserve for the first time.

What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities, whether through time, donations, or acts of kindness. In the UK, it takes place annually on the first Tuesday after Black Friday, offering a chance to focus on supporting causes that matter following the shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
